We’re proud of our beer and especially proud of our elite beer industry here in Asheville. Once again, Asheville is named as one of the best in the country.
Travel Mag released their “20 Best Beer Towns in the US“. Although the “towns” are not listed in a particular order, it’s not just the beer that the editor raves about.
“Asheville is one of the largest towns on this list, but it would not be complete without mention of what has been nicknamed the “Portland of the east coast”—call it Beervana East. Many of Asheville’s breweries are in walking distance of each other but having more than 30 beermakers in the metropolitan area makes it impossible to hit them all in a jaunt through this hilly, shop-filled, culinary town. Asheville has an adventurous and independent spirit evident through the success of cult-classic breweries like Green Man Brewery; Wicked Weed Brewing Pub; and One World Brewing, which is located in a cool cellar—look for a door person in a circular entryway to find the stairs down.” – TravelMag
So what criteria was used to come to the 20 “towns”? First the editors looked at size/population. It had to be under 100,000. There had two be a minimum of two breweries (I feel like an emoji should be placed here), and the area’s overall appeal to beer fans.
Congratulations to our neighbors in Greenville, SC for also being honored with a spot on the list!
