Giving James a Hand Up

A missing dog, a homeless man, and a relieved pet owner. This is the story of Maya, James, and Rick Darge.

When Maya escaped, going off to explore the world as canines are prone do to, Rick was beside himself. 48 hours after she disappeared, he got a phone call.

A man named James and his friend Andy had found Maya. James was living in his car, under a bridge in LA, just trying to survive. Adding insult to injury, his dog died the week before his friend connected him with Maya, whom he’d found wandering the streets. They instantly bonded. But when he took off her harness, he saw her tags, and knew she was not his to keep.

James found a phone and called Rick. As any pet owner who has lost an animal knows, getting word that your fur baby is okay is a huge relief.

When Rick met up with James, he learned more about this man who had cared for his dog and made sure she found her way home. Now he’s asking others to help him give James a hand up. It’ll be a surprise for James. Rick started a go-fund-me page called “Giving Back to James”. If you’d like to help James get back on his feet, check out the full story here.
