When school starts at Fairview Elementary School on August 27th, the campus garden will be looking much better thanks to the Volunteer Army.
The garden is something that the whole school helps with throughout the school year. There are 7 gardening beds and students get hands on learning for everything from prepping to composting and planting and harvesting. It’s a beautiful sight and the kids get to enjoy some of the fruits (or veggies) of their labor.

And then the school year ends. While the pint-size gardeners are off enjoying the grand adventures of summer, the weeds grow. And grow. And grow. So when we arrived on Saturday morning, gloves and tools in hand, we found an overgrown mess. So we got to work pulling, plucking, hauling, and sweating. There was a lot of sweating.

The garden is closer to ready now and we enjoys a morning of exercise and fun. Thanks to everyone who took part!
So where is the Volunteer Army headed next? We’re cooking up the plans now and will be sharing them with you soon. In the meantime, if you’re not a member, sign up! We’ll let you know where we’re going next; if it works with your schedule, come join us. It’s that easy.
