The Morning Mix

The Daily Briefing 3/27/19

Asheville’s Skyline is Changing: We’re getting another hotel. I know … how many more do we need? The City Council seems to agree. The approval for the new project on the South Slope side of Biltmore Avenue (down from the Orange Peel) narrowly passed, 4 to 3 vote. At least once council member is kicking around the idea of a moratorium on hotel construction.

Local Food News: Hello Shanghai Dumpling House! It’s coming to 37 Biltmore Avenue, the former location of Doc Chey’s. It’s the latest offering from the folks who run the super popular Shogun Buffet on Brevard Road.

Cool Hack: Next time you’re trying to cook rice, try this: 1 shot glass of rice + 3 shot glasses of water. The result should be the perfect rice serving for one person.

Good Guys Rock: Keanu Reeves used his star power to make life better for some fellow airline passengers. Their plane made an emergency landing in Bakersfield, CA., more than 100 miles from LA, the destination. Rather than wait around, Keanu rented vans and invited his fellow travelers to join him on the ride. Nice, right? It gets even better. He entertained them by reading to them and playing music from his iPhone. #HeartThrob
