ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Small but widespread power outages affected parts of Buncombe County on Friday morning, leaving more than 1,300 customers without electricity, according to outage data.

As of about 4:45 p.m. June 26, utility outage reports showed 25 active outages impacting 1,348 customers out of 154,232 served in the Buncombe County area.

The outages were reported in several communities, including Alexander, Leicester and along Jenkins Valley Road, where residents said a transformer had blown.

“Transformer blew up on Jenkins Valley Road,” one resident posted in a community group.

In Alexander, some residents also reported simultaneous disruptions to power and internet service. “Anyone else without power and internet in Alexander?” one post read.

Other reports indicated localized impacts in the Macedonia Baptist Church area, where residents said electricity was also out.

Utility officials said the outage was caused by fallen trees or limbs damaging equipment.

An estimated restoration time was listed at 4:45 p.m., though it was not immediately clear how many outages were tied to a single equipment failure or whether additional crews were responding to separate incidents.

No injuries were reported.
