APD detectives add 1st degree rape to murder suspect’s charges

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Following the arrest of Douglas Michael Stroupe, 32, for the murder of Jennifer Rose Gerard and assault of another man on Nov. 20, Asheville Police Department detectives have added a 1st degree rape count to Stroupe’s charges.

“Following laboratory analysis of forensic evidence, Douglas Michael Stroupe has also been charged with 1st Degree Rape. Stroupe was served with the open warrant while in custody at the Buncombe County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond,” APD wrote in a press release.

Stroupe’s previous charges include 1st degree murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and 1st degree burglary.

“The Asheville Police Department thanks the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office for its vital forensic assistance. Their detective and specialized ‘full-spectral imaging’ equipment in the lab helped uncover evidence that contributed to the additional charges being brought forward,” APD wrote.
