Asheville police investigate Sunday night shooting

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police are investigating after a person was found with an apparent gunshot wound Sunday night near the intersection of Hanover Street and Haywood Road.

Officers responded to the area at about 8:36 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a person with a gunshot wound, according to Asheville Police Department Public Information Officer Rick Rice.

Officers found the person with an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder and provided medical assistance until emergency medical personnel arrived, Rice said.

The victim was taken to Mission Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said the victim did not cooperate with investigators and did not provide information about what happened. Officers searched the area but did not locate a suspect.
