ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A South Asheville property will be turned over to a family member and must be brought into compliance with city codes after a court-ordered nuisance abatement stemming from an investigation into persistent illegal drug activity and prostitution.

The Asheville Police Department, Asheville Fire Department, the city’s Development Services Department and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Nuisance Abatement Team worked together on the case involving 710 Brookshire St.

ALE announced the consent judgment and final order of abatement Thursday.

According to ALE, an investigation found persistent illegal drug activity and prostitution at the property that strained local emergency resources and negatively affected the surrounding community.

Under the court order, the property will be turned over to a responsible family member and brought into compliance with Asheville’s environmental and building code ordinances.

The order also states that any future ownership of the property cannot involve operating or allowing criminal nuisance activity.

ALE’s Nuisance Abatement Team uses civil remedies under Chapter 19 of the North Carolina General Statutes to address ongoing criminal activity associated with properties.

The team worked with Asheville police, fire and other city departments on the case.
