ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville officials have released results from a community survey that will help guide City Council in hiring the city’s next manager.

The search comes as current City Manager Debra Campbell prepares to retire at the end of the year.

More than 275 residents participated in the survey and in-person listening sessions held in August. Respondents identified infrastructure and Tropical Storm Helene recovery, housing and homelessness and economic development as the most pressing priorities for the next city manager.

Survey participants also emphasized leadership qualities, including integrity, transparency, community engagement, decisive problem-solving and experience in city government.

The City Council will review applications beginning Oct. 6, one day after the job posting closes. An assessment process for selected candidates is scheduled for Nov. 6-7, followed by interviews the week of Nov. 10. A final decision is expected in late November.

Officials said the survey results will help inform council’s choice. A full record of responses is available on the city’s project page.
