ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Wall Street Parking Garage in downtown Asheville is set to reopen to the public Saturday, Oct. 11, following the completion of major structural repairs, city officials announced.

The reopening fulfills the city’s commitment to have all four downtown parking garages fully operational ahead of peak leaf season. Minor work will continue on elevator landings, but the garage will remain open and accessible during this phase.

“We are pleased to have completed this essential work, which was vital for public safety and the continued operation of one of our key downtown assets,” Ashley Haire, Asheville’s transportation director, said in a news release. “We sincerely thank all residents, businesses and visitors for their patience and understanding throughout the full closure period.”

Permit holders, along with the general public, may resume normal parking at the garage starting Saturday. Permit holders will have a two-week grace period, allowing them to park in any city garage through Oct. 24 while the elevator work wraps up.

The city said additional updates on the elevator work will be shared via email to those signed up for project notifications.

Work on Asheville’s Parking Garage Capital Improvements Project will continue as warmer weather allows, with updates planned for the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Garage and the Biltmore Avenue Garage. The final project phase will focus on code compliance, wayfinding and aesthetic improvements. More information and updates are available on the city’s project page.
