ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A man wanted on multiple charges has been located and taken into custody after being found on a hiking trail along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Buncombe County, authorities said.

Nicholas D.J. Ivers was spotted around 6 p.m. Wednesday by a passerby who then alerted a National Park Service ranger. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed Ivers’ identity and said he is now in custody.

“The circumstances around how he was located are part of our investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We will provide additional details as we are able.”

Ivers was wanted on active warrants for felony assault by strangulation, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and misdemeanor assault on a female related to a domestic violence incident. He was also a suspect in a reported breaking and entering on Appian Way, where deputies responded around 12:55 p.m. Tuesday.

In response to that incident, the sheriff’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were deployed as a precaution, and the residence was cleared without incident.

At the time of the search, authorities had considered Ivers armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Asheville Police Department, Buncombe County Emergency Services and other assisting agencies for their support during the investigation.
