ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville residents braved frigid temperatures Friday, with highs only reaching the upper 30s, to enjoy outdoor shopping and seasonal activities. For those seeking winter fun, the Holiday Ice Rink at Asheville Yards offered a welcome escape.

The outdoor rink, part of the Winter Wonderland in South Slope, features sparkling lights, warm drinks and seasonal festivities. Skating sessions last 75 minutes, starting at $15, and include skate rental.

The chilly weather is expected to continue over the next several days, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

High pressure will keep conditions cold and dry through Saturday, with lows dropping into the teens in the mountains and the lower to mid-20s in the Foothills and Piedmont. Asheville is forecast to reach a low of 22 degrees Friday night, breaking the season’s previous record low of 23.

A weak cold front may bring light wintry precipitation late Saturday into Sunday, with better chances of rain and snow in the mountains and northwestern Piedmont by Monday night and Tuesday. Dry, high-pressure conditions are expected to return Wednesday and Thursday.
