ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The oldest craft fair in the Southern United States will return to downtown Asheville this week for its 78th semiannual show.

The Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16 to Sunday, Oct. 19 at Harrah’s Cherokee Center.

Tickets for the event are $12 and available for purchase at the door. Admission is free for children under 12.

What to expect at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

Founded in 1948 by the Southern Highland Craft Guild, CFSH is a celebration of work by over 100 juried artists from across the Southern Highlands. Traditional crafts centered around 12 different disciplines – clay, fiber, wood, metal, glass, paper, leather, jewelry, natural materials, mixed media, book arts and printmaking – will all be available for purchase at artisan booths along the concourse and arena floor of the convention center.

Shoppers are also invited to attend crafting demonstrations at the festival. Several artists will put their creative processes on display at the SHCG education booth, including weaver Martha Owen, wheat weaver Katherine Caldewell and jewelry maker Gena Hopkins.

For more information, including a full list of the artists who will be present at the festival, visit www.craftguild.org/craftfair.
