ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Voters across Buncombe County cast ballots Tuesday in a primary election featuring one of the nation’s most closely watched U.S. Senate contests, along with a slate of state and local races.
Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., wrapping up a day of voting that included contests for U.S. Senate, the North Carolina General Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives’ 11th District. Incumbent Chuck Edwards is seeking to retain his seat representing Western North Carolina in Congress.
Local races on the ballot included Buncombe County commissioners, sheriff and district attorney. Voters in Asheville also weighed in on a crowded field of candidates for City Council.
The Buncombe County Elections Office thanked the roughly 450 poll workers who staffed precincts across the county throughout Election Day.
