ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two Asheville men have been sentenced to more than 18 years in federal prison in separate cases, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.

Russ Ferguson, U.S. attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, said Juve Markie Lequan McAlpin, 24, received a 15-year sentence followed by three years of supervised release. McAlpin was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

In a separate case, Asa Shaquille Holloway, 32, was sentenced to more than three years (41 months) in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine base. His sentence will run after the 18 months he is currently serving for violating federal supervised release.

Ferguson credited the Asheville Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with investigating the cases.
