ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Every veteran has a story, and this Veterans Day, 828newsNOW and Asheville Media Group are inviting Western North Carolina families to help share those stories.

The Honoring Our Local Heroes campaign gives residents an opportunity to recognize the veterans in their lives by submitting a photograph and a few details about their military service.

Whether it’s a parent, grandparent, spouse, sibling, friend or neighbor, the campaign offers an opportunity to recognize veterans whose service has touched families and communities across Western North Carolina.

Submitted photos and tributes will become part of an online gallery on 828newsNOW.com, offering a community-wide tribute ahead of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

How to honor a veteran

To participate, share a photograph of a veteran you’d like to recognize, along with their name, branch of military service and connection to Western North Carolina.

Participants can also share information about the veteran’s years of service and a personal message or memory.

Submissions will be accepted through Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026.
