ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Muscle-up, Asheville.

Teams of local firefighters and police officers want to compete with your squad to see who can pull a fully-loaded fire truck 100 feet the fastest — all to raise funds for the Trauma Intervention Program, or TIP.

The fourth annual Fire Truck Pull and Health & Safety Fair is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Tanger Asheville Outlets, 800 Brevard Rd., Asheville.

It’s open to teams of up to 12 people, such as from local gyms or other businesses. The event also will include a health and safety fair with vendors, music, games and educational demonstrations. To register or sponsor teams, or to donate, call (828) 513-0498, or see www.tiptug.org.

The sponsoring organization, TIP, is well known among area first responders. It’s a nonprofit organization that’s called upon by public safety agencies in Buncombe and Henderson counties to provide emotional or practical support of people who are experiencing trauma, such as following a sudden tragedy, fatal car crash or other serious incident.

In a release, Asheville Police Chief Mike Lamb praised TIP volunteers for their professional, effective assistance around the clock.

“Asheville Police Department is grateful for the support of Tip volunteers and the compassion they bring to help people in difficult times,” Lamb said. “We encourage our officers to request a TIP volunteer any time someone at a scene needs immediate emotional support.”
