John Thomas Jackson, 1937-2024


Old Fort – John Thomas Jackson, 87, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

A native of McDowell County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a construction superintendent, and many of the highways we drive on today were built under his supervision. He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church and was a US Army Veteran. John loved to work hard but loved his family and friends the most.

Mr. Jackson was a son of the late Bill and Julie Jackson, he was also preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years Juda Jackson, and sister Louis.

Surviving is his daughter, Monica Martin; brother, William Jackson; grandchildren, Destiny Correll, Logan Correll, Trent Correll, Kallen Burns, and Serenna Burns; great-grandchildren, Greycen Angel, Amiaya Young, Lottie Young, and Cora Correll along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Tim Warren officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home.

Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve the Jackson family.
