ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Verizon restored service Wednesday night after a nationwide outage disrupted calling and cellular data for more than 10 hours, though the company did not say what caused the interruption.

The New York-based carrier said the outage was resolved by 10:20 p.m. and had deployed engineering teams to address what it described as an issue impacting wireless voice and data services.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, Verizon acknowledged the disruption and said it would provide affected customers with a $20 account credit. Customers can redeem the credit by logging into the myVerizon app, the company said, adding that the amount generally covers multiple days of service. Business customers will be contacted directly regarding credits.

“This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened,” the company said. “But it’s a way of acknowledging our customers’ time and showing that this matters to us.”

Verizon advised customers who are still experiencing issues to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. The company apologized for the disruption and said it will continue working to improve service reliability.
