ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Western North Carolina will start the new workweek under mild, partly to mostly cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

Forecasters say scattered showers will be possible Monday, mainly along and west of the Interstate 26 corridor, while temperatures remain slightly above normal for early October.

High pressure continues to control the pattern through Tuesday, with low rain chances and a slow warming trend, the weather service said in a Monday morning update. A cold front arrives Wednesday, which will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms across the area. Much drier and cooler weather is expected behind the front during the latter half of the week.

Patchy fog developed early Monday in mountain valleys and could return again Tuesday morning. Monday’s high is expected to reach around 76 degrees in Asheville, with overnight lows near 62 and a slight 20 percent chance of showers.

Tuesday should bring partly sunny skies and highs near 78, with a higher chance of showers late Tuesday night into Wednesday as the front moves in. Showers and possible thunderstorms are most likely Wednesday morning and afternoon, followed by clearing and cooler air.

By Thursday, highs are expected to dip into the upper 60s with nighttime lows dropping into the mid-40s, marking the start of a cooler and drier end to the week.
