New Leicester Highway closed because of crash

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A crash involving a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office vehicle snarled traffic on New Leicester Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

According to people at the scene, at least two vehicles were involved in the crash that happened about 1:30 p.m. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office confirmed one of the agency’s vehicles was involved. No other details about the crash were available.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating.

All four lanes are closed near Mount Carmel Road, according to the NCDOT incident map. It’s estimated that the road will reopen about 4 p.m.

Avoid the area if possible.
