RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday to a report of possible human remains in the 2700 block of Poors Ford Road, officials said.

Investigators said preliminary observations suggest the bone, believed to be a femur, is human. The discovery may be connected to an ongoing missing person case from June 2025.

On Wednesday, sheriff’s personnel, with additional resources, conducted a further search of the area. The femur has been turned over to the North Carolina State Medical Examiner’s Office for evaluation and identification.

Officials have been in contact with the family of the missing person and said they will continue to follow up as new information becomes available.
