ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Community members will have an opportunity today to hear updates on oversight of the Mission Health system and provide feedback during a public meeting hosted by Dogwood Health Trust and the independent monitor responsible for reviewing HCA Healthcare’s compliance with the 2019 sale agreement.

Dogwood Health Trust and Affiliated Monitors Inc., the independent monitor, plans a community meeting Tuesday to discuss the monitor’s work and how residents can share concerns about HCA’s operation of the Mission Health system.

Affiliated Monitors was appointed to oversee and evaluate HCA’s compliance with commitments outlined in the 2019 Asset Purchase Agreement that transferred ownership of Mission Health to HCA Healthcare.

The meeting will include a review of findings from the independent monitor’s 2024 reporting year and information about the process for compiling the 2025 report.

Representatives from Dogwood Health Trust, HCA Healthcare, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office are expected to participate.

Community members will be able to submit questions or comments before the meeting for review and follow-up by the independent monitor and participating organizations.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Western Carolina University at Biltmore Park, Room 346, 28 Schenck Parkway in Asheville. The event will also be livestreamed, and a recording will be posted afterward.

Organizers ask attendees to register in advance. Doors will open 30 minutes before the meeting begins.

“Beyond their monitoring and reporting role, Affiliated Monitors listens to and connects community members to information and helpful resources,” Dogwood Health Trust CEO Dr. Susan Mims said in a statement. “The perspectives and feedback that community members share … are essential to evaluating HCA’s compliance with the Asset Purchase Agreement.”

The meeting is part of a broader community engagement effort by the independent monitor. Since late 2025 and into 2026, the group has conducted outreach to health care stakeholders, met with members of the health care community and held discussions with representatives from six HCA hospital advisory boards.

In addition to the public meeting, Affiliated Monitors plans to hold one-on-one and small group meetings with community members during visits to the region in March and May. Residents, civic groups and organizations interested in sharing feedback about their experiences with Mission Health and HCA can request a meeting by emailing Mission@AffiliatedMonitors.com.

More information about the independent monitor’s work is available here.
