Shirley Ann Gosnell Bowman, 1943-2024


Weaverville – Shirley Ann Gosnell Bowman, 81, went to be with Jesus on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Elizabeth House.

A native of Buncombe County, she worked along with her husband in their grading business and was a member of Avery’s Creek Baptist Church.

Having grown up in Asheville, she met the love of her life, George, at the age of 21 at Bucks Drive-in, and enjoyed cruisingTunnel Road together in his convertible GTO. Shirley lived an adventurous life, especially in her younger years, and remained young at heart throughout her life, even until her last days always believing that she could experience the adventures of her younger days. She enjoyed fishing and water skiing and playing the piano. Having grown up in a Christian family, attending church from a young age, she developed a strong faith over her lifetime, and she loved serving her Lord, Jesus Christ. She loved her family deeply, always giving of her time with her children and her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

She was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Milford Gosnell and Mary Macie Redmon Gosnell, and wife of George Thomas Bowman who passed July 9, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her son, Douglas Milford Boggs; grandson, Trevor Bowman; sister, Wanda Gosnell Fox; and brothers: David Gosnell, and Jerry Gosnell.

Surviving are her children: Donald “Donny” Boggs, Danny Bowman and wife, Torri, and Debbie Wynne and husband, Chuck; grandchildren: Jon Boggs (Lauren), Jennifer Boggs, Macie Alexander (Andrew), Mathew Boggs (Kari), Molly Bullman, Avery Bowman (Sarah), Tate Wynne (Sammi), Cyle Wynne (Claire), Emily Wynne, and Gavin Bowman (Chloe); great grandchildren: Waylon, Brooklyn, Bear, Kadyn, Lincoln, Kaison, Fletcher, Penny, and Ivy Rey; sister, Billie Gail Gosnell Redmon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Avery Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
