Virginia woman charged with felony hit and run after fatal car accident

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Shaina Renee Dallachiesa, 37, has been charged with a felony hit and run after a pedestrian was killed on Saturday night in East Asheville.

Around 11:54 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, Asheville Police Department officers responded to the Exit 7 off-ramp on I-240 East, where an eastbound 2019 Ford Flex struck Daniel Anthony Duryea, 33. The driver called 911 about the incident but left the scene. Shortly afterward, Duryea, left lying in the road, was struck by another vehicle, the driver of which remained at the scene until authorities arrived.

Duryea succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

Over the course of the APD investigation and in collaboration with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Dallachiesa, a Virginia resident, was charged with a felony for “hit and run causing severe injury or death” and charged with driving while license revoked. On Jan. 7, she was taken into custody by the Marion, Virginia police department without incident.
