Since 1889, the YMCA of Western North Carolina has strengthened the foundations of the communities we serve. We do this by nurturing children, promoting well-being, and giving back to our neighbors in need. Our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility guide everything we do. Our association is home to seven fitness centers, an overnight camp, dozens of mobile food marketsyouth sports, and many other programs. We’re also the state’s largest provider of licensed school-age childcareYMCA of Western North Carolina

Our mission

The YMCA of Western North Carolina’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. As a nonprofit, we offer income-based rates to ensure access for the entire community. Donor support funds financial assistance, which is based on need and available resources. Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. It affects more than 29 million people nationwide. A condition called prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. More than 86 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes has no cure, but prediabetes can be reversed. Chances are you know at least one person with diabetes and probably more than one with prediabetes. To find out if you’re at risk, take this quick test. Then share the test with friends and family.

Diabetes programs

Diabetes affects households everywhere in America, especially households who are financially struggling. The Y wants to help. We offer three diabetes prevention programs, in English and in Spanish, at no charge to the public. Diabetes Programs | Chronic Condition Support | YMCA of WNC

Mobile food markets

The Y brings fresh, healthy food to hundreds of families each month at dozens of locations in a five-county area. Our mobile food markets are set up like a free farmers market at libraries, churches, doctors’ offices, and other community hubs. We ask no questions and place no limits on the amount of food each person chooses. In addition to food, we share tasty recipes, practical cooking demonstrations, and valuable nutrition information that’s easy to understand. Spanish-speaking community staff are also on hand to connect attendees with local resources. Food and Nutrition Programs | YMCA of Western North Carolina
